The officials of Edison Group, the parent company of Symphony mobile brand, had a conference with the members of Ministry of Post and Telecommunications recently in Dhaka.
In the meeting, the Honorable State Minister Advocate Tarana Halim on behalf of the ministry of Post and Telecommunications urged Edison Group to become a part of creating “Digital Bangladesh” by ensuring availability of economical mobile phones across the entire nation.
Mr. Aminur Rashid, chairman of Edison Group informed that Edison has already begun work to reach even the most inaccessible parts of the country. He also mentioned that the high rate of VAT and tax charged on handsets has made the smartphone imports challenging. He proposed to lessen the import tax levied on handsets and also requested for permission for mobile manufacturing plants to be set up within the country.
Honorable State Minister Advocate Tarana Halim assured every kind of support in helping Symphony mobile and Edison Group reach smartphones to the hands of the rural population of the country.
